On March 7, 2014, Russell Adler, a former name partner in Scott Rothstein’s now-defunct law firm was criminally charged for funneling illegal campaign contributions to Senator John McCain and Florida gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist.  Adler was charged with a single count of conspiracy to violate the Federal Election Campaign Act.  The charge carries a maximum five-year sentence. Federal sentencing guidelines mean that Adler could serve from 1.5 years to 3 years in federal prison.

Russelll Adler was a named partner in Rothstein Rosenfeldt Adler until Rothstein’s scheme unraveled.  According to the Justice Department, Adler assisted Rothstein in making hundreds of thousands of dollars of campaign contributions.  According to the charges, Rothstein reimbursed Adler nearly $300,000 including at least $239,000 in contributions to Crist’s failed 2010 Senate campaign.

A change of plea hearing is set for April 4, 2014.
